Here are two beautiful fans, or rather face screens, which enabled beautiful girls to warm themselves by the fireplace while protecting their beautiful pale complexioned faces, turned wood frame, two large sheets of black lacquered papier-mâché, each face decorated in color and gold, with two charming "chinoiserie" subjects. One of the screens is more spectacular than the other, but they go well together, probably from the same factory.
    Dimensions: 36cm x 24cm.
French or English work, Napoleon III period.
Condition: both lacquered plates are thick, there is some cracking and sticking at the bottom of the screen at the large portraits, (red arrows), otherwise, nice fresh condition.
