* Pierre-Hyacinthe Morice de Beaubois, known as Dom Morice
is a Benedictine of the congregation of Saint-Maur, born October 5, 1693 in Quimperlé, died October 14, 1750 in Paris. He undertook, at the request of the States of Brittany, to give a new edition of the History of this province, by Dom Lobineau, and he published, from 1742 to 1746, three folio volumes of supporting documents, which Lobineau did not had made known only by extracts; he added learned Dissertations on the origin of the Bretons, their manners and customs at the time of the entry of the Romans, on the origin of the barons and fiefs, of the States-General of Brittany, etc. In 1750 he published the first volume of the Ecclesiastical and Civil History of Brittany, and he was preparing the second when he died of a stroke on October 14, 1750, in the Abbey of Blancs-Manteaux in Paris. , 57 years old. Dom Taillandier was commissioned to review and complete the work of his colleague, and it was through him that the last volume appeared in 1756. The History of Brittany, by Dom Morice, is superior to that of Dom Lobineau, by the additions and clarifications it contains; but we value above all the curious pieces that the new author has added to it, the greater part of which were unpublished.
