    Belgian Guy Mercier collection.

The mask is sold without the base, a universal base (35€) or custom-made (45€) can be provided on request.

For the Dan, also called Yacouba, residing in western Ivory Coast and Liberia, the cosmic force known as "dü" which animates the universe is revealed through the sculpted masks. According to their belief, this force seeks to transmit wisdom to man to offer him support, mainly using the channel of dreams. The spirits then guide the artisans on how to name and shape the mask they wish to be created. These masks, of various types, serve social, spiritual, and political functions, and often evolve over time to meet the changing needs of the community.
