Mumuye mask called shoulder (rather worn on the head) also called Sukwava, formerly it was used during ceremonies of preparation for wars, but now it appears during rites which aim to ward off bad luck and divert evil influences. Our example of approximately 56cms high is carved in a hard wood eroded by use, the elements and time (it should be noted old indigenous repairs of cracks in the wood). A rare and spectacular object dating from the middle of the 20th century.
