    Belgian collection of African art.

This Nzebi-style mask is distinguished by its fine lines and the vertical arrangement of its colored areas. It represents a nature spirit or ancestor, designed to facilitate connection with the supernatural world and obtain the benevolence of forces beyond our reality.
The Nzebi, also known as Bandjabis, are originally from the Ogooué region, but have established their presence mainly in southern Gabon and the Republic of Congo, notably around Mayoko, an area rich in iron ore. Their main secret societies include Bwiti, Mwiri and Ndjobi.
