Kifwebe mask from the Basonge people of Zaire, one of the most famous primitive art masks with its distinctive, abstract, cubist design. It is the male model with the crest, and was purchased in 1980 from Galerie Pierre Vérité, one of the most famous Parisian galleries known to all collectors, with a certificate attached.
Note the wax stamp on the inside, illegible to me (from Mr. Verité or the Congo provenance?).
Height 40 cm significant patina of use, termite attack visible on the back and right side, beginning of last century.
