Large Dogon maternity figure from Mali, 88 cm high with the base, hardwood, good condition. This is not a religious object, but rather an object intended for the colonists, often offered as a token of gratitude for a kind deed or to obtain a favor. This is particularly evident in the level of detail, which is absent in religious objects, notably the baby in the arms, which is generally only sketched; here it is very faithfully represented and corresponds to our iconography. In any case, a very beautiful object, quite rare in this quality of execution.
