"Phallic" sculpture of an ancestor DAGARI, a subgroup of the LOBI of southwest Burkina Faso, also called "Kpiin Dâa".
The Kpiin Dâa (literally: wooden statue of a deceased ancestor) are simplistic and anthropomorphic wooden statues in the shape of an inverted Y.
These statues are traditionally used as protectors against illness and evil, and as advisors.
A beautiful example of the genre. Dry and earthy patina, slightly sacrificial. Old traces of xylophages, erosion and desiccation cracks.
