PLAIN INDIAN MEN'S SHIRT, LAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA

Skin, pigments, horsehair, beads
Full skin, with fastening links on each side; the skin is covered with green pigments on the upper central part, then with vertical red and ochre stripes on the lower part. Two wide beaded bands adorn both sides, the motifs are segmented and multicolored; the crosses illustrate the four sacred directions. Strands of horsehair hang from either side.
At the neck, a beaded motif is decorated with white, blue and red bands and friezes.
The sleeves are tinted blue, with a beaded circle of red pigment at the end. The ends are fringed.
This almost contemporary Sioux Tetons shirt comes from the collection of an indianist located around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
