Haida mask - Canada
A polychrome wooden mask, typical of Haida work, with a benevolent expression on the face.
The mask's eyes, cheeks and forehead motifs are incised into the wood and highlighted with different-colored varnish pigments.
The mouth is half-open and pierced by a hole, and the lips are pigmented black, contrasting with the blue cheeks.
The same color is repeated on the motifs carved into the forehead.
The eyebrows, eyes and motif in the center of the forehead are highlighted by black pigmentation.
On the reverse, the mask is hollowed out.
The varnish is slightly cracked, testifying to the age of this object.
