Beautiful patina of use for this hand drum or "Kundu" collected in the Blackwater region of Papua New Guinea. Traditional instrument decorated with engraved tribal designs and cowrie shells. The hand drums or "kundus", very symbolic for the Papuans because they symbolize the voices of the ancestors, are difficult objects to acquire... Wood, natural pigments, recycled threads and rubber, shells. Very good tribal sounds. Missing in the lower part visible on the photos. Field photos by David Godreuil.
