Small nogwi figure of the Nokuma people collected in the village of Amaki in Papua New Guinea. The nogwi is used during the third yam ceremony celebrating the yam harvest. Nogwi symbolizes the birth of this sacred tuber. It aims to satisfy the ancestors in order to obtain a good future harvest. This third and final ceremony is reserved for initiates.
