    WAR CLUB
Karaja Indians, Mato Grosso and Tocantins states, Central-Eastern Brazil
    Wood and plant fibers
Length: 72 cm; Width: 5 cm

Hardwood mace with a striking blade, of a so-called “prismatic” shape. The shaft is covered with a decoration of plant fibers woven into a two-tone geometric pattern—traditional Karaja motifs.
The proximal end is ringed and terminates in a slightly conical pommel.

This combat club was reserved for powerful warriors and clan chiefs and could serve as a dance staff for certain ceremonies.

     Provenance:
    - Former Stefan Dahomey Collection, London, England.
    - Former American private collection.
