Gandhara Greco-Buddhist art, 1st to 3rd century A.D., important and very rare gold repoussé pendant decorated with a scene depicting a lion attacking a buffalo. The pendant features two rings at the top on which are inserted two tiny fragments of semi-precious stone. The pendant is made of 18-carat gold.
The motif of this pendant is very similar to that depicted on ancient Greek coins.
Provenance: acquired from a specialized Parisian antique dealer in 1978.
