    JAPAN - Meiji period (1868 - 1912).
    Large rectangular box, called SUZUEIBAKO
    the lid decorated in maki-e lacquer with a scene featuring three samurais at the edge of a forest; a rider and two warriors on foot holding a standard and a naginata spear. Extremely fine lacquerwork, highlighted by metal inlays for the naginata blade and the horseman's dragon maetate. The reverse of the lid in nashiji lacquer features five geese in flight, three of them lacquered and two in chased, silvered and inlaid copper. The rounded uprights and sides are decorated with a stream, the rim in silver.
    Excellent overall condition, slight wear scratches under the base.
    Work to be compared with that of SHORYU SEGAWA.
    Dimensions: 15 x 25 x 30 cm.
