Modify
Dating from the middle of the 18th century, this box forming a wig box is molded with an ogee on its 4 sides, the lid is domed, the articulation is made thanks to two cut-out brass hinges, engraved with flowers, the closure is secured by a push-button clasp, the front plate is perforated and engraved with foliage and bird.
The frame of this charming box seems to be charming in view of the veins visible below, the construction does not present any modification or any restoration, the wood is covered with a lacquer with a red background formerly enhanced with gold decoration, if the gold has nowadays disappeared from the patterns we can still see the chinoiserie, a great fashion coming from the taste for the Far East, the decoration of the cover is also a beautiful representation, in the middle of large trees, birds and a building on the left, which can be a house or a temple, many characters in Asian outfits come alive, in particular a rider placed in the center of the decor. The patterns on the sides show more wear, we can still guess birds and foliage.
This box is in its original condition, it has not been repainted, the interior is tinted black with traces of gold powder under the lid, it seems that there was a cloth held in the bottom. Note that there must have been a small pull button on the cover at the front, there is an old slit on the cover as well as a chip of wood at the back next to a hinge.
