This adorable little scent box contains a set of four cut crystal perfume bottles with silver stoppers. It is complete and retains its cup, funnel, and small tumbler. The cup and cup bear the Paris hallmark, dated April 7, 1781 for small works, of the Fermier général Henri Clavel, a rooster's head facing left. The bottles and funnel bear the Saint Germain en Laye hallmark, dated December 1, 1780 for small works, of the same Henri Clavel, and depict a dog's head facing left.
The interior is covered with original blue silk and the lid is fitted with a small mercury glass. The box is in kingwood marquetry; it retains its key, but the lock no longer works. The cup and cup have suffered from the passage of time, and some minor deformations and dents should be noted.
18th century.
