In the heart of Europe, in Bohemia, at the end of the 19th century, the Loetz factory developed a production of glassware which met with great success.
Characterized by iridescent surface decorations and sinuous forms inspired by nature, the vases and cups of the glassware are fully in line with the Austrian Art Nouveau style (Jugendstill), which was predominant in the decorative arts of the time.
The special and typical color and relief of Loetz glasses give them an extremely refined touch.
Loetz was also one of the pioneers in the use of electrolytic deposition techniques, and he patented many processes.
The innovative and original forms used by Loetz and inspired by the glass objects of ancient Persian and Roman Art, are typical of glassware in the Art Nouveau style.
Other equally popular designs from Loetz are vases inspired by nature and decorated with original "swan neck" or "peacock" color shapes in iridescent blue-green tones.
This constantly renewed creativity was made possible in part thanks to collaborations established with Viennese merchants-publishers and artists and would also earn Loetz several awards at the Universal Exhibitions, notably in Paris in 1900.
