This spectacular bronze potpourri, of Vietnamese origin, is a striking testament to the decorative and symbolic refinement of Southeast Asia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The piece rests on an original tripod base composed of finely sculpted elephant heads, symbolizing strength and wisdom in Asian traditions. The globular body, with its deep brown patina, is adorned with gilded bronze relief decorations depicting a fantastical and symbolic bestiary: turtles, dragons, phoenixes, and stylized clouds.
The openwork lid, topped with a rock, accentuates the ritual and spiritual character of this piece, which was likely intended for burning incense during ceremonies or in a religious or aristocratic setting.
