An important pair of Louis XVI style cassolettes in veined pink marble, adorned with rich, finely chased gilt-bronze mounts. Each cassolette features handles decorated with ram's heads linked by delicate cascading floral garlands, typical of the Neoclassical decorative vocabulary.
The domed lids are topped with an elegant finial in the form of a stylized pine cone. The square bases and pedestal feet emphasize the overall architectural balance, while the contrast between the naturally veined pink marble and the gilding adds refinement and luminosity.
Made in the 19th century in the Louis XVI style, probably during the reign of Napoleon III, these cassolettes were intended to adorn the mantelpieces and consoles of bourgeois and aristocratic interiors. Highly decorative, they would be perfectly at home in a classic, Haussmannian, or contemporary interior.
