A pair of cinnabar lacquer vases with relief-carved decorations of figures in landscapes. The necks are decorated with foliate scrolls.
Available in a variety of colors, the most popular lacquers are red, obtained from the resin of the lacquer tree, combined with mercury sulfide, a mineral pigment already used in prehistoric parietal painting.
Chinese work from the 19th century.
