Signature 'Yamanaka, made in Japan': the Japanese company Yamanaka was founded in 1894 in New York. Its founder, Sadajiro Adachi, a Japanese antique dealer, opened his first store in the United States where he sold various objects of art from Japanese and Asian culture: tea sets, inro, netsuké...he met with great success from the start among collectors and lovers of oriental culture. He subsequently opened numerous boutiques throughout the country.
Growing tensions between the United States and Japan, then the Second World War, led to the confiscation of the company's assets in 1941. After the war, Yamanaka & Co reopened a store which was permanently closed in 1963.
