A graduate of the École des Arts et Métiers in Angers, he first worked as a paper merchant and bookbinder, like his father, and later became a licensed bookseller on May 5, 1843. His talent as a draftsman earned him several awards at exhibitions in Toulouse and Bordeaux. In 1846, he became the owner of the Hôtel de Bayard, located at 2 Place Royal in Pau. Built in 1640, it was remodeled in the early 18th century by Antoine de Bayard.
Bassy retired from his professional career in 1876.
