Large minister's desk inkwell in Boulle marquetry (tortoiseshell on a red and brass background) richly decorated with chased bronze (bust of Indian women in the corners, antique masks, astragals). It features 4 compartments, two of which are concave and two for inkwells. A hidden drawer in the waistband holds mail.
Our inkwell is mostly in gilded brass, with tortoiseshell arabesques standing out against the gold background (its twin brother may still exist somewhere, symmetrically cut to produce the same inkwell with gold decoration on a red background).
Louis XIV style, Napoleon III period, circa 1850.
Large-format piece, to be placed on a flat desk.
Very good condition, no missing decoration, no accidents.
