17th-century bronze sanctuary candle-picker base with triangular base, turned shaft with beautiful balusters, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, from the Santa Casa de Loreto sanctuary (Italy), as attested by the naively engraved inscription on the base: beatae mariae virginis lauretanae, the Virgin's numeral: M.A , and Christ's: IHS.
Period: probably 17th century, or early 18th century
    Dimensions: 32cm x 11cm. Weight: approx. 1.4kg.
Condition: good, 18th-century candlestick and wick seem to have been repurposed, base may have had feet, God only knows.
my research: beatae mariae virginis lauretanae: vocal prayer of intercessory requests to the Holy House of Loreto, home of the Virgin Mary, which was legendarily transported at the time of the Crusades from the Holy Land to the town of Loreto, Italy, which became a shrine and important pilgrimage.
