Rare Provencal solid walnut hunting or display buffet.
The front of this slightly curved piece of furniture opens onto two wide leaves separated by a frame. Each leaf is molded with large, sinuous, asymmetrical reserves. The two leaves are symmetrical. The upper part is decorated with gadrooned foliage and flower scrolls.
The openwork lower crosspiece features a bouquet of peonies framed by gadrooned foliage scrolls. At either end, the two carved jambs terminate in gently curved feet. The more complex S-shaped sides feature side panels with stylized chapel motifs.
At the top, a large, richly-veined turquoise-blue marble with a corbin beak crowns this original piece of furniture, with its particularly successful subtle plant ornamentation.
Provencal work from the 18th century.
