This free-standing piece of furniture, entirely in solid oak, has a sloping flap, finely molded on each side, opening on original iron hinges.
The interior offers four identical drawers, two of which are equipped with functional locks with keys and two with brass buttons only. This space is completed by five compartments as well as a large lower niche.
This chest is locked using two original and functional double hook locks, with keys and oval brass entries.
This rare piece of furniture, assembled with a dovetail, has a bronze handle on each side with a stopper for easy transport.
The perimeter of the base is embellished with a cove and bec-de-corbin molding.
With the expansion of international trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, the profession of money changer grew in importance. This authentic and quality safe, which was used to lock up instruments used for transactions, banknotes, bills of exchange, objects and precious metals, is the vestige of a profession today modernized by computers.
