Maison Lecan presents this large solid oak farmhouse table from the 1920s, featuring two drawers along the base. It is a classic French country table, but with a rougher, more rustic character than most.
Its standout feature is the tabletop. It’s about 5 cm thick, with wide planks and a beautifully defined oak grain. Most notably, the edges have never been planed straight. The edges still follow the natural shape of the planks, with their undulations and raised textures, giving the table an almost brutalist look. It works very well in a contemporary interior. A few old pieces of wood inlaid into the tabletop serve as a reminder that it was once used for real.
The construction is traditional: planks joined to form the tabletop, a ring beam, and legs assembled with mortise and tenon joints, all doweled together. The square legs with straight chamfers are connected by an H-shaped brace with a molded crossbar, ensuring the base remains stable. The two drawers are deep. We fitted them with new shell-shaped handles.
The tabletop was fully restored in our workshop. We sanded it down until the surface was smooth, pleasant to the touch, and easy to maintain in daily use, then finished it with wax. The base, on the other hand, has retained its original patina.
At 270 cm long, it comfortably seats 10 guests and 12 if they squeeze in a bit. At each end, the tabletop extends 30 cm beyond the crossbars of the base, allowing you to sit at the end of the table without bumping your knees. With 60 cm of clearance under the apron, plan to use chairs with standard seat heights, around 45 cm.
Dimensions: Length 270 cm, Depth 90 cm, Height 76.5 cm / Height under the table top: 60 cm
