Half-moon table or console in molded and lacquered wood with a gray patina. It is topped by a molded top with a faux-marble patina. Beautifully carved with elegant proportions, particularly the brace simulating wickerwork. A very large model (163cm long when a "normal" console is around 115cm), it is a piece of furniture that lends itself to use as a console in a hallway or as a sideboard in a dining room or living room. Work from Toulouse in the Louis XVI - late 18th century period, similar to that produced by Roussens.
The Roussens family is a dynasty of chair carpenters established in Toulouse. We know the father, who became a master in 1757, leaving a body of work that is essentially Regency and Louis XV. Our salon is more likely the work of the son, who became master in 1784 and used the same stamp as his father. The Roussens' production (seats and furniture) is highly refined and original, making them the principal suppliers to the nobility of Toulouse, as was their colleague Pillot for Nîmes, whose work is equivalent in terms of quality and originality.
A charming 18th-century object, ideal for a country home. Very good overall condition, structurally sound and in good condition, minor restorations.
