Magnificent commode inlaid with rosewood and violet wood, made by Pierre Wattelin.
Born in 1719, Pierre Wattelin was a renowned cabinetmaker who registered his letters of mastery in Paris on July 21, 1757; he lived in rue Traversière-Saint-Antoine until the end of the reign of Louis XV.
This chest of drawers in the spirit of "tomb", curved in front and with movements on the sides, has two drawers in the upper part whose front is made of rosewood in butterfly wings surrounded by violet wood. The edges of the drawers are also in rosewood. They open with two original bronze handles delicately worked. They are accompanied by original bronze locks and entrances, and keys in working order.
Below, this perfectly restored 18th century chest of drawers has two other drawers of identical size. Their front is also inlaid with rosewood and presents: handles, entrances, original bronze locks and keys in working condition.
The sides, backs and bottoms of drawers are in oak. Dust covers are present between the drawers.
On each side, this property is equipped with violet wood veneer humpback feet, trimmed with important bronze falls worked in height and bronze sabots in the lower part.
The sides of this small chest of drawers are with movements and are composed of rosewood and violet wood.
At the top, a thick marble from Rance (Belgium) used during the construction of the Palace of Versailles, with the front and sides moved, has a wide molding in beak of corbelled crushed.
Refined and elegant, this commode of Parisian quality signed Pierre Wattelin, will delight you with its ornaments of gilded bronze with leafy decorations and its sinuous forms.
