Empire Style Showcase Bookcase – Mahogany & Gilded Bronzes

Empire style two-door display bookcase in solid and veneered mahogany.

The upper part is made up of two glass doors giving access to four interior shelves; the lower part has flamed mahogany panels. The gilded bronze ornamentation is characteristic of the Empire repertoire: central pediment with facing winged griffins, corner palmettes, engaged columns with bronze rings and capitals, laurel wreaths and floral sprays on the lower leaves, frieze with foliage on the plinth. The chiseled bronze keyholes in the shape of a palm tree constitute a carefully crafted detail. The interior bottom is made of secondary boards, in accordance with workshop practices of the time. The general condition shows patinated wear consistent with the age of the piece: scratches on the varnish, chips and visible traces of use; cleaning and refinishing of the varnish are to be expected. Operation of the locks not specified. Depth of shelves: 30 cm. Dimensions: H. 185 cm – L. 120 cm. Weight: 60 kg.
