It features a console entablature with claw feet, opening to 2 drawers in the waistband. On the top, a 2-part writing desk with its original leather upholstery unfolds. Set back, in the manner of a theater, is a cabinet with 3 drawers and 2 leaves simulating 3, trimmed with mercury mirrors. Fine Parisian oak-mounted furniture from the late Consulate or early Empire period (1800-1805), in the Retour d'Egypte style, very fashionable at the time.
Our piece is a fine model of its kind, with all the finishing touches that enthusiasts look for and that differentiate it from a common model: chased and mercury-gilded bronze trim in matte and glossy, front panel trimmed with mirrors, original leather interior, cloverleaf locks with original key. Can be disassembled into 2 parts for travel from one château to another.
Our desk is in very good condition: the buffer varnish has been cleaned and repolished by our cabinetmaker. The gilded bronzes are original, have been cleaned, and the original mercury gilding is extremely well preserved with no wear. The marble is in good condition and original. The mercury mirrors have a glittery sheen.
This is a fine piece of amateur furniture that you don't see everywhere. It is in its original, well-preserved condition, without being overly restored.
