Exceptional Louis XVI-style cylinder desk in rosewood and mahogany diamond marquetry, decorated with ormolu plaques depicting allegories: Music on the main sides and Sculpture on the sides. It opens with six drawers and a flap revealing a sliding shelf and six small drawers. The central drawer under the flap has a secret opening below it, which opens at the touch of a button. The desk stands on four sheathed feet. Fleur de Pêcher marble top - a historic marble used in the 19th century for exceptional pieces - encircled by a bronze openwork gallery.
Attributed to the Maison Beurdeley, one of the most important dynasties of furniture makers in the 19th century (1818-1895), particularly appreciated for the quality of their bronze mounts and the choice of precious materials to adorn their furnishings. Directly inspired by a model by cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener, executed in 1784 for the interior cabinet of Marie-Antoinette's small Tuileries apartment, and now in the Louvre Museum.
