Small mid-Victorian secretary in blackened wood with cedar burl and light wood inlays.
This piece of furniture is composed in the upper part of an inclined flap provided in the center of a fawn-colored leather with a golden vignette composed of stylized leaves. On both sides, decorative elements in cedar and lemon wood decorate this desk. Opening with a key through an original claw lock, this flap is held in place by a brass compass and reveals a storage space and two small drawers. This interior is in sycamore.
This small piece of furniture is topped with a storage unit with an original hook key, with a domed lid decorated with an identical decorative element in cedar and lemon. Inside, we find paper trays on the left side and on the right side a pen and inkwell.
On the right side of this Davenport, four identical side drawers with pine cone shaped knobs feature factory locks with working key. The interior of each drawer is solid mahogany. On the left side, we find four dummy drawers having an identical appearance.
Set back, the front of this piece of furniture has a central panel with a rectangular strip of cedar embellished with amaranth and lemon. These veneer decorations are also present on the pilasters and the base of this piece of furniture resting on casters.
This blackened wood Davenport will delight lovers of English furniture and functional and refined little secretaries.
