A very fine Henri IV period chest from the 17th century, converted into a desk in the 19th century. The front, alternating with four Corinthian columns, is composed of molded panels and niches. The rear section, converted into a desk, consists of two doors and three drawers in the frieze. One of the doors opens to reveal three compartments with vertical files and a shelf; the other to reveal four drawers. The desk's top, which was originally the chest's lid, has a beautiful patina from use and still retains the forged nails that held the original lock's latch. France, late 16th/early 17th century
