    French work, 19th century

    Superb large cardboard box in marquetry and gilded bronze.
    Bears the stamp of master cabinetmaker Durand Gervais (1839-1870) on the uprights.
    Furniture composed of six cardboard drawers on the top with leather on the front, then 21 Hungarian oak interior drawers with leather on the front.
    Eventful sides in marquetry with diamond decorations, ornamentation of gilded and chiseled bronzes.
    Topped with Aleppo breccia marble, low crossbar decorated with a large chiseled rocaille gilded bronze.
    DURAND GERVAIS (1839-1870) is a French master cabinetmaker.
    Born in Paris on July 31, 1839, he practiced in 1870 at 12 rue de la cerisaie. Then 23 rue Beautreillis from 1878 and 62 rue st Antoine around 1900 in the old Sully hotel.
    The house then took the name Durand et Fils, he participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1889 where he obtained a silver medal.
    According to the report by A. Picard, Mr Durand, a cabinetmaker as skillful as he is modest, exhibits for the first time first-rate furniture of which he is both the designer and the executioner.
