Small Mahogany Cylinder Desk, Louis XVI style - Mid-19th century

Superb little Louis XVI desk in solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, with a drawer in the waistband delicately framed by a brass doucine rod. The drawer opens with a bronze key, which activates a perfectly functional original lock. The finely chiselled keyhole adds an extra touch of sophistication.
This cylinder desk rests on four turned tapered legs, adorned with stopped flutes highlighted in brass, each ending in an elegant brass shoe.
The cylinder part, decorated with a brass doucine molding, features two bronze side handles for smooth opening. A central lock, identical to that on the lower drawer, is unlocked with a bronze key.
On opening, the cylinder reveals a refined workspace: a sliding shelf framed in mahogany, dressed in black leather enriched with a gilded vignette and a delicate central ornament. The interior is completed by a niche and three small mahogany-fronted drawers, each embellished with a lens knob and brass frame.
The upper part of the cabinet features a tiered arrangement of three drawers with brass rods and pull knobs, separated by fluted uprights. The whole is crowned by a bright pink Pyrenean marble top, encircled by a fine openwork brass gallery.
