Transition style cylinder desk, nicely worked, richly inlaid and accompanied by bronze fittings.
This piece of furniture of Parisian manufacture in veneer of rosewood, rosewood and natural or stained wood, is equipped with a cylinder with two shaped bronze knobs, sliding up. This cylinder is decorated with a marquetry of rhombuses forming cubes, with a large medallion-shaped composition in the center. This one is illustrated with several musical instruments (flute, violin, lute, drum...) accompanied by a score and laurel branches. This ornamentation is topped by a large harmonious knot and is surrounded by rosewood. This cylinder is closed by an original lock in the upper part of this piece of furniture. In perfect working order, it is completed with a bronze entrance and a key.
Inside, a sliding shelf has a rosewood frame, mitered, surrounding a new red lambskin leather, with cold vignette, gilded vignette and gilded central motif. The interior, in mahogany, is composed of five compartments of different sizes.
On each side, two large protruding quarter-circles that allow the cylinder to slide, have a rosewood and rosewood front, adorned with bronze trimmings at the top and bottom, in the shape of a long leaf.
At the top of this furniture is a gallery in openwork brass with partial return on the front. It surrounds a marquetry of natural or stained wood cubes.
In front, under the cylinder, the belt is composed of two drawers also inlaid with cubes. These drawers are equipped with a chiseled entrance of branches, an original lock in working condition and are surrounded by rosewood. Their interior is in oak. Between the two drawers, we notice a notched part allowing the optimal installation of the future buyer of this desk.
The sides of this piece of furniture are made of the same marquetry as the front. The back is made of a frieze of rosewood with net, harmonizing with the rest of the furniture.
This middle desk rests on four curved legs with fronts in rosewood veneer with butterfly wings, ending with elegant clogs.
Its small size makes it a rare piece of in-between furniture that can be installed in a room with limited space, as well as to delimit an office space in a living room.
Its quality of manufacture and its wood species, make of this refined desk a beautiful example of the know-how of the Parisian workshops of the XIXth century.
