This small sloping desk opens with a mitered-framed flap in blackened pearwood, inlaid in the center with a light-wood floral composition on a burr amboyna background, encircled by geometric-shaped fillets.
The flap, mounted on a brass dovetail hinge, is fitted with an original lock with later key and inlaid escutcheon.
The interior features a writing area dressed in black leather with cold-finish and gilded vignettes, corner and central motifs.
A sliding shelf with brass tab provides access to a storeroom.
These elements are topped by three small maple flecked drawers with turned rosewood knobs and a niche at the top.
The waistband and sides, slightly shaped in the case of the latter, feature identical marquetry in light wood and burr amboyna.
The unit stands on four humped, whiplash-shaped cambered legs with burr amboyna edging.
The assets of this small sloping desk are without question its small size, its marquetry of precious essences and its masterly craftsmanship.
