Napoleon III furniture, 19th century

During the reign of Napoleon III, the aristocratic and bourgeois tastes were nostalgically immersed in the styles of the Ancien Régime, reworking them to suit the taste of the time. Historicism was in full swing and Napoleon III furniture borrowed freely from one or other of the great moments in the history of furniture to create its own character. Our sideboard is a striking example. Halfway between the sideboard and the dressing table, high enough to be qualified as a piece of furniture, this piece of furniture has no equal.
A pedimented mirror, with a curved profile and gilded fillets recalling the fashion of the Etruscan taste, crowns the piece of furniture. All blackened wood, it matches and introduces the lower part. String of pearls, acanthus leaves and scrolls give a baroque vigor to this mirror in perfect condition.
Underneath, a white marble top, a reminder of the Louis XVI and Empire style, protects the body of the piece of furniture opening with two doors. High enough to sit on, the tray does not prevent you from appreciating the mirror reflections.
Then there are two doors generously decorated in the manner of Boulle marquetry that pay tribute to the Grand Siècle style, to Berain and to the Louis XIV taste. Sitting on its ball feet, this piece of furniture in blackened wood, gilded wood is in very good condition.
