Charming sellette in the Napoleon III taste, topped by a blackened wooden tray, worked in the shape of a scallop shell, and provided with a round base, also in blackened wood, embellished with moldings and resting on galette feet.
The unusual carved shaft of the seat represents the long tail of a dolphin whose head is ridden by a cherub. This tail looks like a sinuous branch decorated with acanthus leaves.
Naked Eros, seated on his dolphin, seems joyful, holding his curly hair with his left hand, the other resting on his thigh. His legs have aquatic attributes recalling the symbiosis that unites the cherub with his companion.
We imagine them skimming the seas and sharing many adventures.
This theme of the god of love riding a dolphin, a mythological animal, was recurrent in ancient art.
It is here reinterpreted by the artist who creates a unique and poetic ornamental saddle.
