The Pines in Japan (Matsu):
In Japan, one of the main trees used in gardens is the pine (matsu), which is a symbol of victory in the face of adversity. As a result, every garden, no matter how small, has one. Three types of pine are the most common: white pine (Pinus parviflora), red pine (Pinus densiflora) and black pine (Pinus thunbergii). They can be pruned or not, pruned they are then called "Niwaki", it is then about trees which we call "pruned in clouds". Not to be confused with bonsai, which are trees grown in a restricted space, pine lending itself very well to this art of bonsai.
