    Ferdinand LOP (1891–1974). Set of three charcoal sketches on Ingres paper depicting forest and urban scenes, signed in the lower left corner. Ferdinand LOP was a humorist known in the 1950s for his eccentricities. A prominent figure in the Latin Quarter, he was the originator of numerous hoaxes and whimsical proposals.
    Ferdinand Lop, also known as Samuel Ferdinand-Lop, born on October 10, 1891, in Marseille and died on October 27, 1974, in Saint-Sébastien-de-Morsent, France, was a journalist, cartoonist, English tutor, writer, poet, comedian, and French café philosopher, best known for his perpetual candidacy for the Académie Française and in presidential elections, as well as for his slogans: “All for the Lopular Front!” and “The chariot of the State needs a Lop’s wheel.”
