This 17th century engraving is taken from the work of Antoine Pluvinel (1552-1620) entitled: "The instruction of the King in the exercise of riding a horse" it was engraved by Crispin de Passe (circa 1593-1670 ). The young King Louis XIII is on horseback, holding a lance, and under the gaze of various characters named on the engraving. The scene is flanked, on either side, by a column supporting a large cornice in the center of which appear the Arms of France framed by two cupids. The print is preserved in an old pitch pine frame. The engraving is yellowed and has some foxing.
