This pair of gouaches depicting views of Rome is dated 1842. One is a view of the Forum of Rome, with the Arch of Septimius Severus on the left, the Temple of Saturn on the right and the Temple of Vespasian in the center, while the other shows the interior of the Colosseum.
They are the work of a certain Di Filippi, and although we haven't found any information about him, the quality of execution, worthy of the art of a miniaturist, is indisputable.
This charming set has retained its original freshness and is framed by a modern black-lacquered rod.
Mid-19th century.
Each view measures 10.5 cm x 13.5 cm, and each frame 26.5 cm x 20.5 cm.
