Pastel on paper depicting a grape harvest scene near the Moselle River, signed G. Wintz, dated 1956, giltwood frame.
Good condition: backing board replaced.
Pastel dimensions: 45cm x 31cm. Wilhelm or Guillaume Wintz (1823-1899) was born in Cologne in 1823. He enrolled at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, then emigrated to France in 1849, settling in Remilly in the Moselle region to study under the painter Auguste Rolland. He moved to Paris in 1856, obtained French citizenship, and exhibited at the Salon of Pastoral Landscapes and Animal Paintings from 1855 to 1898.
