Presumed portrait of Count Nicolas-Charles de Nugent (1806-1881), second Count of Nugent, auditor at the Conseil d'État and owner of the Château des Mesnuls in the Yvelines region.
Portrayed at an advanced age, the man is depicted in a bust, slightly turned three-quarter, looking gently at the viewer. Wearing a dark indoor cap, the face, framed by a generous beard, reveals calm, reflective blue-gray eyes, giving the portrait a presence that is both peaceful and endearing. The artist's attention is focused on the face, carefully crafted, while the shoulders and clothing are only sketched in broad pastel strokes, suggesting the shape of a light coat without specifying the details.
Pastel on card, presented in a large polychrome wooden frame.
