"Ernesto Levorati was an Italian painter active in the Veneto region between 1876 and 1898. Born in Padua, he settled permanently in Venice in 1884. Specializing in portraiture and genre painting, he was particularly fond of scenes in Venetian costume." He exhibited regularly in Italian galleries during the last quarter of the 19th century, primarily sending his works to Milan (1874, Interior of the Church of Santa Maria dei Frari; 1881, Popolana; 1885, Towards Evening, Calm; 1890, Head of a Young Girl; 1893, Idyll), Turin (1879, Buranelle; 1884, Autumn), Rome (1883), and Venice (1887, Venetian Types). Other works were exhibited in Trieste (1876, 1880, 1882, 1890). The last known painting, dating from 1898, is a Portrait of a Young Man that has recently appeared on the market.
