A polychrome Nevers earthenware cornucopia vase, signed by Antoine Montagnon, illustrating the great Nevers tradition of cornucopia decoration. The trumpet-shaped, flared neck, which opens widely, rests on a bulging body accented by a twisted knot with yellow and black fluted patterns, all set on a matching circular pedestal.
The decoration, executed with great finesse, unfolds in multilobed panels filled with stylized acanthus foliage and scrollwork, in the famous “lambrequin” style cherished by the Nevers earthenware workshops since the 17th century. The rich and contrasting color palette combines deep cobalt blue, antimony yellow, copper green, orange, and white, enhanced by mascarons (small faces) nestled within the interlacing patterns. The neck is bordered by a frieze of black scrollwork on a yellow background, beneath a midnight blue rim.
