Set with small old-cut diamonds, this adorable little brooch is in gold plated with silver as attested by the control mark representing an eagle's head, it is the hallmark in force for gold since 1838. shaped like a flower, it is made up of a double row of petals which radiate around a small central diamond whose setting takes the shape of a star. For my part, this is the first time that I have seen a jewel in silvered gold, a gemologist and jeweler friend gave me the following explanation which I am passing on to you without much guarantee because I have not found any confirmation. The reason would be that to appear less rich and for more discretion some bourgeois would have wanted such jewelry, but perhaps it is only the wish of a few elegant people to own a piece of jewelry in the color of silver which is in a metal more precious and more resistant, to my knowledge white gold did not yet exist! The result is no less attractive and this brooch will look great for holding the top of a blouse closed or bringing together the two sides of a stole.
